Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to Bonus Dad. Bonus Daughter a special father-daughter podcast with me Hannah and me, davy, where we discuss our differences, similarities, share a few laughs and stories. Within our ever-changing and complex world, Each week we will discuss a topic from our own point of view and influences throughout the decades or you could choose one by contacting us via email, instagram, facebook or TikTok links in bio.

Speaker 2:

Hello and welcome to a continuation podcast episode on D&D. We started with a little one-shot campaign and we explained sort of the mechanisms of D&D in our previous episode. So if you haven't listened to the previous episode, this one's not going to make a whole lot of sense. But yeah, for those that it's only been a week long between these episodes, it's actually been five minutes for us because we just went for a little wee and come back. So I just want to kind of recap where we left off. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

John, we do so, would you like?

Speaker 2:

to DMs.

Speaker 1:

Over to you. So basically, there is young Arby, yes, who is a rogue Rogue, and who is a rogue?

Speaker 2:

Rogan Huntsberger.

Speaker 1:

Who is travelling? Who's travelled to a little town, a little village called Rivermist, where she met a lady by the name of Old Martyr, who had told her that a goblin I'm?

Speaker 2:

actually a man. I've decided I'm playing.

Speaker 1:

You are a man, I know so that goblin, a servant of hers called Snick, had stolen a family heirloom pendant and had run off into the woods. Now these woods at the end of the village are a place that nobody really goes to, which is why she couldn't ask any of the other villagers to go and get it from Snick.

Speaker 2:

And for some reason this pendant she needs before nightfall and it's midday so she's asked me a little bit late in the day.

Speaker 1:

Yes, she has, and you've taken on her. Uh, challenge and uh, rogan has entered the woods, found a small doll. The woods are very, very eerie. You've gone into the deep, dark woods and you've come to a clearing where you found a rusted sword which looks like seems to be a small battleground of some kind. From there you've made your way further, from the other side of the clearing into the woods, where you've come across a small chapel and in the chapel you've seen an altar, and at the altar, etched into the stone, are the words do not listen to her yes, that is where we are.

Speaker 2:

So thoughts that rb is having right now is her could be referring to the forest itself.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I could be referring to old martyr I think that's a fairly reasonable explanation, or it could be referring to the statue of the faceless woman that is within this chapel that has gone to ruin. Presumably this chapel hasn't been up kept because it's in this forest that no one likes to go into, but so far I've had a fairly clear and uneventful path yeah, as stealthy as I can be, and there's not been anyone that's been in this particular chapel yeah, so just to metagame slightly, and by metagame I mean explaining the game.

Speaker 1:

The fact that you have rolled high stealth checks has got you through quite a bit yes, yeah, yeah and so what? What is your, what is your character thinking now about this whole situation?

Speaker 2:

what? What are your thoughts?

Speaker 1:

lucky about the whole, about the whole pendant, about the whole master what? What is going through, I think?

Speaker 2:

I, I'll be.

Speaker 2:

I think that this pendant is a little bit more than she's making it out to be okay I think martin might be a witch and that if she doesn't have this pendant, perhaps she turns into something awful. Um, perhaps she is even the keeper of the forest, perhaps maybe this is it. Maybe the pendant keeps, like the evil foresty people out of the way. Um, I've obviously had quite an easy ride so far. Um, I'm looking for this goblin and every step I take I am worried that I'm going to come across them, and that's why I'm being as stealthy as I possibly can, but right now, kind of just like annoyed rb is annoyed that he he's having to do this okay journey for this woman that he's never met with absolutely well, because what?

Speaker 1:

but why is he doing it? What? Why is he he's doing it?

Speaker 2:

he's doing it because he's good, he's chaotic, good, but he's a little bit myth that there's not going to be a reward because he's a rogue and he likes shiny things. Yeah, and he's chaotic, good, but he's a little bit myth that there's not going to be a reward because he's a rogue and he likes shiny things. Yeah, and he's only found a rusted sword so far. So I think, what is, what is his motivation so far? Is his curiosity, his potential reward that she might be keeping close to her chest and any treasures that he might find along the way okay, intrigues him okay just noticed my.

Speaker 2:

I have a resistance to fire, so this might be interesting. Yeah, if we do come across something of a fiery nature, okay, um, so you're currently at the altar, you can see these these words do not listen to us.

Speaker 2:

Etched into the stone yeah, which I'm gonna heed. Uh, that's fine. I would like to now make my way that. Presumably nothing. I think I've done a perception check last time. There's nothing in the chapel. That really, um, that really. Oh no, stop stop rolling dice. I would like to go outside of the chapel and make sure there's no one hidden around the back of the chapel from what I can see from the vantage point stealthily, of course.

Speaker 1:

Okay, roll me another stealth, check Stealth check.

Speaker 2:

of course I've got such a high modifier for stealth. It's unreal. Maths is Mathsing 14.

Speaker 1:

14. Yeah, okay, as you make your way back outside, to the back of the chapel, you can hear Whimpering A child or possibly a goblin noise.

Speaker 2:

can I tell what is making the noise? Insight of course. Ooh, baby, that's a 15 15. Yeah, with the modifier sounds like a small creature, a creature ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh. Small creature, a creature. Okay, before I come around to the creature, can I please get the doll back out of my bag? You can indeed I just want to, you know, wonder if it belongs to them.

Speaker 2:

So I don't want to look intimidating okay I want to look like a traveler, so I want to make myself look open okay ready to hear what the swimpering creature has to say is that okay?

Speaker 1:

yeah, you can tell you that the sound isn't close. It's not that close to you it's not not behind, but as you move to the rear of the chapel, you can just hear it it's. It sounds like it's coming from about probably from about 100 meters away okay is there a no, not 100 meters, sorry, but um 100 feet away, is Okay? Is there a no, not 100 metres, sorry, but 100 feet away?

Speaker 2:

Is there once again like a path out past the chapel now?

Speaker 1:

There is a very, very overgrown path, very overgrown.

Speaker 2:

And that's where the noise is coming from.

Speaker 1:

You can see where there once was a path. Right, and that's where the noise is coming from right, where the noise is coming from yeah, Okay so I I'm gonna head towards the noise, not looking intimidating, stealthily going, but not looking like I'm gonna start a fight.

Speaker 2:

Okay, stealth, stealth. Yeah, oh, that's my worse one. 11 11.

Speaker 1:

Okay, again similar to before, as you're kind of going through the, as you're walking through the, because the fern is quite overgrown and you can't see the twigs and the branches and the leaves Now, where the leaves were decaying in the other part of the forest they're actually quite dry now. Okay, and as you're kind of walking, you're just kind of like you are being stealthy but you're just crunch, it's crunchy, crunchy, crunch. And as you walk down the path, you can see there is this one tree that looks different to the others. This thing is huge.

Speaker 1:

It looks like a massive twisted oak tree like somebody's house no, just just a big thick in the middle of my path yes, it's still. It's still a few. It's still a few feet away. You can see it, but you, you, you're not that close. You've already mentioned that. I'm not from around In the middle of my path. Yes, it's still a few feet away. You can see it, but you're not that close to it.

Speaker 2:

You've already mentioned that I'm not from around these parts, but would I know of any legends of?

Speaker 1:

History check.

Speaker 2:

Yep Cool. Oh it's eight.

Speaker 1:

Eight, you do remember, as you kind of rack your brains, that you did hear a story that the woods.

Speaker 2:

something terrible happened in these woods, but you can't remember what helpful, okay, and this noise is it grown louder since I've got close to this tree?

Speaker 1:

as you get closer, the noise does grow louder can I see anything at all?

Speaker 2:

any person. I'm looking for people. You.

Speaker 1:

You're looking for insight.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Insight 15. 15. Yeah, you can see, as you come to the tree, you can see a figure just barely, barely, kind of sitting just almost to the side of the tree. Okay, so you can see that something is there.

Speaker 2:

Okay, before I engage with this person or make my whereabouts known, I just want to make sure there's nothing in the tree line or anything like that, or on the ground that could possibly indicate anyone that's going to hurt us or a trap on the ground. Not detecting a trap, I'm just saying if there looks anything that's out of place at this stage.

Speaker 1:

Okay, give me a perception check 13. You can see, as you're going along the path, that a bit of the path has been kind of etched away okay, and it just looks strange, but there's a, there's a bed of leaves across this bit of the path, uh, the path that I'm about to step on, or the or outside of the path that you're about to step on okay, I got the doll out of my backpack.

Speaker 2:

I'm gonna now throw that doll at the patch of grass, of leaves.

Speaker 1:

Sorry, that looks out of place okay, as you do, that the doll just goes into the leaves cool and falls and falls through please may I jump over this.

Speaker 2:

Is it jumpable?

Speaker 1:

it is jumpable, it's only well you can't because it just goes through the leaves.

Speaker 2:

So right, yeah, so I can't tell how big this not at the moment. Not at the moment okay, could I go up to the hole?

Speaker 1:

yeah, how are you? How are you going up to it?

Speaker 2:

stealthily. No, well, I know, the hole is there yeah so I just want to go there and assess, obviously, how big the hole is, so I should know where it falls, where it dips.

Speaker 1:

Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah Okay.

Speaker 2:

So I'd like to walk up to the hole, I guess.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And then kind of prod in front with my foot just to see where it falls.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

But not actually step on it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, as you do with your weight, then it does kind of give way a little bit more then it does kind of give way a little bit more. And you do see, there's a three-foot round hole in the Three foot Three foot round hole.

Speaker 2:

That's quite a jump actually. Yeah, Can I see anything in the hole other than the doll that I just chucked in?

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

So it's just an empty pit. How deep.

Speaker 1:

About six foot.

Speaker 2:

How tall am I? In this game I've got some pittance. I was just wondering if I fail the jump?

Speaker 1:

I reckon I could pittance. Is it just soil, just soil.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to attempt to jump the hole.

Speaker 1:

Okay, athletics check.

Speaker 2:

Of course Not acrobatics. This was hard for me for some reason. Where is my athletics check? No modifier, it's just zero, it's just based on the roll.

Speaker 1:

Twelve, twelve, 12. You just make it, yay, just make it. As, as you leap over the hole, valiantly, valiantly, you kind of just teeter on the edge as you bet and just you're about to fall down and just manage to write yourself cool um, I'm not recovering the doll.

Speaker 2:

There's no point. Has the person heard me?

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Am I in initiative?

Speaker 1:

No, as you make your way over the hole, you kind of land on some more twigs, as you do it as well, because you're teetering and you hear the crying stop and the figure just disappears around the back of the tree Around.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so they know that I'm there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I know that they're there. Can I call out and just say I mean you no harm. I'm in search of a goblin who's lost his way in the forest. Deception right.

Speaker 1:

That is a persuasion. Oh, okay, I'm deceiving. No, you're deceiving. Yeah, yeah, that's a deception. Check, oh shit, go on.

Speaker 2:

Five.

Speaker 1:

Five, you're here Go away.

Speaker 2:

Leave me be. That sounds quite goblin-like, actually Go Run.

Speaker 1:

Shit, leave this area.

Speaker 2:

See, I'm on this quest to find a goblin. You don't happen to be Snick by any chance.

Speaker 1:

There's a pause.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Then who are you?

Speaker 2:

I'm a friend.

Speaker 1:

You're no friend.

Speaker 2:

I was just seeing if you were okay.

Speaker 1:

I'm fine, leave me be.

Speaker 2:

Leave me be. I mean, this is obviously Snick right, and I can't see him.

Speaker 1:

He's hiding behind the tree. This is so difficult.

Speaker 2:

Okay, okay, I would like to cast. I would like to cast a minor illusion.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

What I would like to do is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So you say he's like around the back of the tree, right?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So am I approaching from the left or the right side?

Speaker 1:

Where's the path? Well, the tree's dead in front of the path Dead in front. Dead in front of the path?

Speaker 2:

yeah, Okay, so I'm going to approach from the left, so I would like to do a minor illusion on the right.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

To try and distract the goblin so that I can at least get around the tree without him potentially hurting me, because he may have a weapon. Okay, if that is successful. Um, the illusion I'd like to do is maybe, maybe, maybe, just some kind of rustling, yeah, like some sort of large animal that might scare him yeah but not enough that. So enough to yeah, enough to grab his attention, but not enough for him to run away. Does that make sense? So I want, like a medium-sized beast okay, okay.

Speaker 1:

So like a like. What? Like a wolf?

Speaker 2:

type. Yeah, I guess yeah, yeah yeah, I would like to illusion a wolf on the right side as I approach from the left okay and I would like to use stealth to do the approaching from the left which which role would you like first?

Speaker 1:

so the illusion probably the illusion first, yeah yeah, it's a cantrip okay, so you cast cantrip yeah, successful yeah sweet.

Speaker 2:

And then, yeah, is he distracted uh, yeah, that one fair enough, okay, cool. And then I would like to Poise my my short bow, please.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2:

And stealthily walk around On the left.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Would you like me to roll for stealth? Yep Six plus eight, six plus eight, 16.

Speaker 1:

16,.

Speaker 2:

okay, no what's six plus, oh sorry, 14. 14,. I goofed the maths 14, okay, 14 on stealth yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay. So yeah, as you kind of got round the corner, he's kind of distracted by this wolf thing that you've kind of created, and as you walk around you can clearly see there is a small goblin just looking at this wolf and he's got his back to you. Is he wearing clothes? Yes, well, he's wearing a loincloth.

Speaker 2:

That's pretty much it, loincloth. And how close is he to the tree? He's pretty much up against the tree, fantastic, yes, I would like to pin his clothing to the tree so that he can't move with a sneak attack please okay, go for it so a sneak attack is once per turn. You can deal an extra 2d6 damage.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but I'm not doing it.

Speaker 2:

You're not doing any damage, I'm just kind of aiming for his clothes to keep him in place, yeah, okay. You don't need advantage on attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet, the enemy isn't incapacitated and you don't have a disadvantage on the attack roll. So yeah, I am using one of my arrows as well.

Speaker 1:

He's not moving, he's just standing there. So that's fine, I just want to. I just want to corner him, yeah um what would you like me? So roll, roll and attack roll four four as you, as you pull your bow back, you just kind of slip slightly and the arrow goes flying through the air and snick turns around to face you and says what, what do you want? What do you want?

Speaker 2:

do? Do I not have an advantage on that roll because it's a sneak attack?

Speaker 1:

does it say you have an advantage?

Speaker 2:

so, uh, once per turn you can deal an extra 2d6 damage range weapon if you have advantage on the attack roll uh, you don't need advantage on attack roll if another enemy of the target is within five feet, which is not in this case.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no advantage, no, advantage, no. He said what do you want? What do you want? Go away, leave me be.

Speaker 2:

I hear you have something of martyrs.

Speaker 1:

No, no, you can't have it back. What is it?

Speaker 2:

You don't understand. The pendant is evil, she's evil. Okay, I actually figured as much and I'm going to say that to him.

Speaker 1:

You can see that he's clutching something tight in his hand, but it's almost like burning his hand as he's holding it and you can see his eyes are now kind of as he's looking at you and he's got it. And you can see his eyes are now kind of as he's looking at you and he's got the pendant in his hand. He's just this kind of look in his face.

Speaker 1:

His eyes are kind of yellow and he's just like almost like he's possessed by it no, well, almost like fear and anger at the same time okay, can you tell me more about this pendant? No, go away this guy.

Speaker 2:

Honestly, I would like to aim my crossbow at his chest, but not fire okay, I'm using it for intimidation purposes roll an intimidation check with advantage on this one.

Speaker 1:

I will give you an advantage on this one. 15 4.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, okay, so when you have an advantage just to explain to our listeners when you have an advantage on a roll, you actually roll twice and then you just take the higher one. Yes, so my first roll was a 15 and my second roll was a four, so I'm obviously going to take the 15. And then I also have an intimidation modifier of one, so I rolled 16.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2:

Did I intimidate him successfully.

Speaker 1:

You did Cool. So the DC that I had in my head actually was only 10 on this one. Okay, because he is kind of like yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So I want to ask him please tell me more about this pendant.

Speaker 1:

It's evil, it's cursed it's.

Speaker 2:

She said it helps her sleep. What does she mean by that?

Speaker 1:

Oh no, it doesn't help her sleep.

Speaker 2:

Is it for protection?

Speaker 1:

No, it helps her stay alive, alive, cool.

Speaker 2:

And why did you steal it then? Why do you not want her to stay alive? Can you explain a bit? Can't live forever, oh no one can okay, so it's like an eternal life thing. Okay, cool is she um, is she? Does she have magical abilities, or once did that you're aware of.

Speaker 1:

She does when she has the pendant.

Speaker 2:

Got you Understood, understood, okay, my alignment is not acting well for me. Can I tell if he's telling the truth, please?

Speaker 1:

Roll for a insight. There'll be insight. Check Insight.

Speaker 2:

I rolled an 18.

Speaker 1:

He's telling the truth he's pretty much telling the truth. He's pretty much telling the truth.

Speaker 2:

Oh my god, where do I stand now?

Speaker 1:

Well, that's your choice. What are you doing?

Speaker 2:

I have literally no stakes in the game either. What's your plan with the pendant?

Speaker 1:

I'm trying to destroy it. Destroy it, okay.

Speaker 2:

I'm willing to help you destroy this pendant.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Friends Persuasion oh shite. I'm willing to help you destroy this pendant. Okay, friends.

Speaker 1:

Persuasion Fair.

Speaker 2:

Oh, shite Three.

Speaker 1:

Three. He clutches it tighter and tighter in his hand. Go away, leave me be. Please leave us.

Speaker 2:

Us, us. Is there more than one of you?

Speaker 1:

No, me and the pendant. Ah, this isn't Lord of the Rings. Yeah, I was like is it a Schmeagle thing, even though the voice does kind of? Yeah, I was like ugh, yeah, I'm chaotic. So what are you going to do, god?

Speaker 2:

Okay, I'm going to take my short sword and chop off the arm that's holding the pendant. Okay, presumably I'm close enough at this point.

Speaker 1:

I think we need to roll for initiative now. So what we're doing now is hannah or rogan has decided that. Rb has decided that he's gonna battle, battle for the pendant.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2:

I want to know what this pendant does.

Speaker 1:

Okay, roll for initiative.

Speaker 2:

I think RB is very curious. I've decided my initiative roll was five.

Speaker 1:

Okay, do you want to see what I got, hannah?

Speaker 2:

You got a nat 20. Go on, then, okay.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so as you come in and you try to cut his arm off, yeah, yeah, I'll be taken as my hit roll. Yeah, no, no, he's noticed that oh okay, he's noticed that you are going to attack him yeah. And he pulls out his dagger.

Speaker 2:

Okay, which is in his loincloth? Yeah, okay.

Speaker 1:

And ducks out of the way and he goes to stab you.

Speaker 2:

Ooh where.

Speaker 1:

In the body.

Speaker 2:

In the body. What did you roll?

Speaker 1:

Nat one, nat one. Well, you missed, as he does so.

Speaker 2:

I'm 15.

Speaker 1:

He just spins around and just trips and is just laying on his back.

Speaker 2:

So, for the audience members, my armour class is 15. And that means that the DM has to roll 15 or more or have a modifier to get 15 or more in order to be able to hit me.

Speaker 1:

But nat 1 is an epic fail, epic fail.

Speaker 2:

So I would like to attempt again at slashing that arm that's holding the pendant okay, clean off.

Speaker 1:

This is the oh okay yeah, this is the idea.

Speaker 2:

Hopefully it's nice and sharp. 12 12 hits fantastic news. So his armor class is lower than 12 is what I now know. Um, and that's all I know. So I'm just going to make a note of that. Okay, so I would Sorry. That was my apologies. That was my short sword.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so roll for damage, roll for damage.

Speaker 2:

It's 19 plus 6.

Speaker 1:

19 plus 6 damage.

Speaker 2:

So that's 25.

Speaker 1:

I've just hit him 25 hit points okay, yeah, as you pull your, as you pull your sword down to slash his arm, yeah, as he's falling with that one, he the blade, as instead his he's kind of slipped straight through Right and you've cleaved his head straight off.

Speaker 2:

Oh my god, I killed him.

Speaker 1:

You completely annihilated him. Okay, cool, Bye Snick. You have decapitated Snick.

Speaker 2:

And I have the pendant now. Can I pry it from his cold dead hand? You can indeed. You weren't expecting that, were you DM? No, I wasn't Okay.

Speaker 1:

That was the shortest battling candor I think we've ever done, yeah that's very cool.

Speaker 2:

I'm enjoying that. So the pendant when I pick it up, do I feel any different? Does it have any effect on me at all?

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Cool Okay.

Speaker 1:

Which I suspected. As much. As you feel the pendant, you are rushed with all these images and flashes and all this kind of like memories within the pendant and you find you. You see yourself looking at a woman with no face, but you know her from the pendant that the name is Alessa.

Speaker 2:

I'm assuming Arby sorry is assuming that Alessa is the statue.

Speaker 1:

Yes, it looks. As soon as you see this figure, you can then see it is the same as the statue and you feel that Alessa is a forgotten priestess of a long dead god.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

You see these images and flashes from centuries ago, before when the woods were cursed. Okay, you see the chapel in all its glory, standing at the heart, dedicated to the goddess of light and mercy, alessa, her most devoted priestess, who is a healer, who was. You can see her healing throughout the ages, the sick, the lost and does she look like martyr?

Speaker 2:

okay, so martyr has stolen this pendant from alessa but one thing you see, sorry, yep.

Speaker 1:

You see a nobleman come to alessa. This vision comes into your mind a little bit more vivid and slower. You see that he's infected with something deep, something magical, deep inside his soul. Alessa tries to save him. You then see the darkness. Leave this nobleman and go into her pendant.

Speaker 2:

Oh shite. So the pendant has his bad, bad, dark magic in it one by one.

Speaker 1:

You see the villagers then throughout time, after alessa, still with this pendant, they start to succumb to the same disease and they wither and they die alissa chose the wrong person to heal and then the images just flash away okay.

Speaker 2:

Does the pendant have any effect on my ability to see or feel or anything? Now that it's in my possession, do I feel any different? Do I feel queasy? Do I feel other than the visions coming through? Do I feel any different? You feel slightly more alive, alive, interesting yeah so alistair obviously used this pendant to keep herself alive, but now it's infused with this dark nobleman's magic. What do I do with this information? I could head back out of the forest okay but I'm worried about giving it to martyr okay so I guess I need to find out really martyr's stake to the claim.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2:

All right, so I've got a dead. Oh sorry, did Goblin man have anything else on him?

Speaker 1:

No, just his loincloth a dagger, and he did have a head.

Speaker 2:

He did have a head. I'll take the head.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Put it in my rucksack.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

I would also like to take the dagger, okay, I would also like to take the dagger.

Speaker 1:

Okay, you can take his dagger, so I've got two daggers.

Speaker 2:

now I assume I'm not encumbered with two daggers.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, no, no no.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, you're fine. So I had my. Oh sorry Was the shortbow, was that? Oh, it's two-handed. I made a mistake because I used my short sword and my shortbow at the same time.

Speaker 1:

We'll it to somewhere because it's a two-handed weapon and I used my okay short sword sorry about that, although I wasn't in initiative. So at that point, yeah, yeah, okay, okay, I goofed.

Speaker 2:

I mean I've got the pendant now, what are you gonna do with the pendant? You have a choice to make. Yeah, can I? Okay, I've got an idea okay I would like to go back to martyr okay but I want to create the minor illusion of the pendant okay and give it to her my illusion okay and I would like to see her response to that okay, so you're gonna head back to the village stealthily stealth, yes, okay, as I won't get you to roll for stealth again, okay, okay, because as you walk back through from the chapel to the clearing, yeah, you can almost see the woods themselves, almost like afraid of you, of me.

Speaker 1:

I got the power, you have this sense that you know, as you're going through, that the trees almost kind of flinch as you kind of walk past them with this pendant, okay, and as you move from the chapel to the clearing, back to the deep woods, back to the other woods, and then you come to the edge of the forest and you can see the village in front of you.

Speaker 2:

How do the villagers react to me? Now the same.

Speaker 1:

The same. Okay, they villagers react to me now.

Speaker 2:

The same, the same. Okay, they just look, they just don't know.

Speaker 1:

They're just like tired.

Speaker 2:

Tired. Okay, is Marta outside of her house this time?

Speaker 1:

Marta. You can still see Marta sitting outside of her house.

Speaker 2:

Sitting.

Speaker 1:

Sitting outside of her house, okay, okay.

Speaker 2:

So um how long does the illusion last? Do you know the minor illusion? One minute christ okay, I'd like to pretend to hold something in my hand as I'm walking out of the forest okay, so you're casting minor illusion yeah, and I want it to kind of look like no, no, not, not quite yet can I.

Speaker 2:

can I cast a spell without her kind of knowing that I'm casting as well? Yeah, okay, cool, because my, my thought process is I want to look like I've had a bit of a battle with this goblin, so I want my kind of sword poised. The crossbow is either Sorry, the short bow is either attached to me somewhere or something. I'm not using it. I want the kind of the sword poised like I've gone through a battle of some sort, so it's around but doesn't look intimidating.

Speaker 1:

It's just that I've just used it. You've got blood on your sword. Exactly, you'll have blood on your sword.

Speaker 2:

I've just kind of used it. So I want it. Basically what I'm saying is I want it in my hand, freely ready to use, and then I want the pendant to be stowed away safely upon my person.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

In my hand. I want it to look like I'm getting close to the house because I realise I've only got a minute.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So I'm walking up to the house halfway there, then I maybe do the illusion, and it takes me like another five seconds to reach her.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

I go. Does she say anything to me as I approach Deary?

Speaker 1:

have you brought my pendant back? I?

Speaker 2:

have Time's ticking. I have, I've got your pendant here, oh you're so wonderful, Snick.

Speaker 1:

what's happened to Snick?

Speaker 2:

And she looks up and she can see the blood on your sword.

Speaker 1:

He was possessed by the pendant is what I want to say Is he gone, unfortunately? So yes, Roll a deception, check Cool.

Speaker 2:

Fifteen.

Speaker 1:

Fifteen, she looks at you, her quizzically, and as she looks at you, she kind of she believes you to a degree, but she, she says, but almost as though she believes you believe that oh okay, oh yeah, I'm okay with that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, are you going to be possessed by the pendant if I give it to you? No, it's a family heirloom.

Speaker 1:

Please give me my pendant back.

Speaker 2:

It's all I have of my ancestors. Okay, so she knows that. I know that that's not right, because I've touched the pendant and I've had the wave.

Speaker 1:

She's almost pleading with you, right? She's almost pleading with you to give her the pendant back.

Speaker 2:

I want to say now I'd like to use intimidation okay I know this is not your pendant, it is my pendant. It is not, and you know that because I've touched the pendant. And you are not alicia, no, no, so what's alicia to you? Intimidation check sorry oh, balls, six, six. Are you intimidating at all, even with my blood drained sword? She just says please give me the pendant back, fine, and then I pass her the minor illusion okay, as she reaches out and she touches the pendant the minor illusion pendant.

Speaker 1:

This is not the pendant.

Speaker 2:

Oh, this is what snick gave me. This is not the pendant. Okay, where is my pendant? That is your pendant. I need it, please. What do you need it for? I need it. That is the pendant by now.

Speaker 1:

It's getting quite dark, it's starting to yeah, you know, start off at midday.

Speaker 1:

We're now kind of like it's autumn time, okay, yeah, and in the Forgotten Realms the clock's gone back. Okay, so you can see the sun is starting to set in the distance, okay, and Marta looks up at the night and she can see it, and she starts pleading with you, begging you to give her the pendant. I feel like now she's going to tell me, like, please tell me why you need the pendant. Roll a persuasion check with advantage on this one, because it's dark, she's dead balls what did you?

Speaker 1:

um, nine, nine be fair, I think that's probably yeah, okay, okay, okay. I gave you a dc of five on that one because, it's. You know, she's desperate she is desperate, desperate for this one. As she looks at you, she says it was actually a 10, sorry I'll tell you, okay, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1:

She says uh, look, I'm dying, you're dying, I'm dying, my body is wasting away. I wandered into the woods one day and after I'd heard of this healing place and I found the pendant and when I hung it around my neck, all my ills and all my diseases went and I became young again.

Speaker 2:

That was so long ago so you lied to me because you said this was in your. Please, no, I need it. I need it. Is she telling the truth?

Speaker 1:

Roll a insight check.

Speaker 2:

Ooh 12.

Speaker 1:

She seems to be telling the truth.

Speaker 2:

Oh, my God. Okay, I'll just ask her outright If I give you this pendant, are you going to hurt me? I'm just an old woman. Can I see if she's lying?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Fourteen.

Speaker 1:

Fourteen you believe, she believes.

Speaker 2:

Oh god, I really don't want to give her this pendant. I'm a rogue, I like shiny things. I reckon I could sell this for a lot more.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

I don't think I'm going to give it to her.

Speaker 1:

Okay, well, as you stand there and she's pleading and pleading with you, to give her this pendant.

Speaker 2:

The good in me is like no.

Speaker 1:

You can just see the sun just starting to set.

Speaker 2:

I don't think she's good.

Speaker 1:

And then, as the sun Zan and the night kind of, you see the shadows coming up the street.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

And as the shadows touch, martha, you can see it touches her leg first. She's looking at you, her eyes kind of. She now looks scared, oh God, she looks terrified. And as the shadow touches her foot, you see her foot. Just start to turn to ash.

Speaker 2:

Oh God. And her body just starts to to ash, oh god and her body just starts.

Speaker 1:

I'll let the night, take her and it does. Yeah, let the night, take her as the shadow then goes over her whole body as it creeps up there. She just turns to ash and there you're, standing there over the body of marta.

Speaker 2:

Well, a pile of ash, is that it?

Speaker 1:

Well. I mean what are you going to do?

Speaker 2:

I want to sell the pendant, I guess, but I don't want to sell it in the wrong hands.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

Is there some sort of like chapel or priest?

Speaker 1:

There's nowhere to sell it. So basically you will have to leave River Mist. Yeah With the pendant. Yeah pendant yeah, with dead martyr, yeah, and dead snick yeah and the pendant, yeah okay, is that the end?

Speaker 2:

that's the end.

Speaker 1:

That's the end. That's the end. So, essentially, you've gone killed. You've gone in to help an old woman find a pendant, you've decapitated her manservant, you've watched her die because this pendant is the only thing that was keeping her alive. And you've got said pendant and now you're going to go and sell it somewhere else. So yeah, that's dnd, that's dnd that could have ended in. So how I'd written. That is basically. I had the setting, I had the characters and the pendant and the story of the pendant. Everything else was done on your choices.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I could have ended and worked out so many different ways.

Speaker 2:

Was killing the goblin on there, something that you'd anticipated me doing.

Speaker 1:

I thought well, there's many things you could have done. You could have befriended Snick.

Speaker 2:

Well, I was trying, but he's a bit resistant.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but you could have befriended him. You could have then destroyed the pendant together. You could have you know, or you could have given it back to Martha and she would have reverted back to being a young woman. Yeah, there's lots of things you could have done.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Lots of things you could have done.

Speaker 2:

It was slightly anticlimactic.

Speaker 1:

It was because of your choices. Yeah, because of your choices, I Well because of your choices.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because of your choices. I was quite selfish really, but I thought that putting it into either hands was the wrong thing and because I'm good, I didn't want to.

Speaker 1:

But, to be fair, you are also a rogue and you are a thief, so you played.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so it's in my nature, it's in your nature to do this. Yes, which is what I was playing as.

Speaker 1:

Exactly.

Speaker 2:

Thinking oh, I'll just set it on for something cooler.

Speaker 1:

So there you go. That was weird doing it with just one other person. That was actually really difficult.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I enjoyed it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, think our listeners enjoyed it.

Speaker 2:

I don't know.

Speaker 1:

We'll ask them.

Speaker 2:

Drop us a line, drop us a line.

Speaker 1:

Would listening to that make you want to play D&D?

Speaker 2:

That's a really good question.

Speaker 1:

That's a question. That's a good question.

Speaker 2:

Well, we're going to leave it there. Sorry if the ending was a bit anticlimactic for you. You're a thief, I'm a thief, through and through.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I'm a thief through and through, if you like that episode.
